I would love to hear your thought on editing
Yesterday I went out for a few minutes to take photos of fences. I found three sites I liked and was able to shoot two of them. The photos turned out pretty bad. The worst part was the camera was acting up again. It has never done this before. Before it would not automatically focus. It would twirl back and forth like a horrible ballerina. When, or if, it decided the show was over and I may possibly be able to take a photo, it would remain 'busy' for the next 3 - 5 seconds after a single picture. Plus it wants to use the flash. ALL the time. Not good for moving subjects. Or any subject. I decided to take it to the local camera store.
I was far from impressed with their service. I was told I had a meter setting really high and that was causing my problems. Mr. Camera Store Man reset that for me. I noticed he was in the Program mode of the camera. I have never ventured in to that mode. I also had gone through all my settings ( in manual, yet again) just before going in to the store. It was slightly alarming to watch him fumble around with the lens for a good 10 seconds before getting securely locked on to the body. He then began to school me on the focal length of my lens, I politely informed him I knew it was a minuimun of three feet and I was not trying to do macro with it. Then I asked if they offered a service to clean, update or just any general maintmence. ( I had heard of other shops offering this but I do not know what it exactly entails). He scoffed and replied that no one offers that, photographers don't do that with DSLRs, but if I wanted I could send it to Canon for a minimum of $200. Ok then. Last question, is there anywhere that develops film? Well of course there is! Yea maybe this hasn't been a waste of time after all. He begins naming of all the usual suspects; Walmart, Safeway, Costco.. Stop. Just stop. I had already been to all of those places and asked. Like any semi intelligent person would. Sigh. The good news is I have heard of another camera shop that I am hoping will be more competent. I took the camera home switched the card to a newer one I had, reformatted that one and stuck it in. The camera worked much batter. Not perfect but much better. I also cleared the old card and all but one of the test photos Camera Store Man took were blurry. Thanks for the help. I have one or two follow ups to this I will try to get out ASAP. Thanks for reading any comments or suggestions are always appreciated!
Disclaimer: I am not a professional. I have had my DLSR for 3 years and I use it a few times a week. I have a lot to learn as this is a skill that takes a lifetime to learn. My point being is I am not trying to come across as condescending, or haughty. The information from the store was not all wrong either, but the way it was delivered could be improved.
I have been contemplating writing a post for the last week. The more I think about it, the more questions I have. The topic I wanted to write about is selling your photography online. I recently set up an Etsy store and now also a Fine Arts America store as well. I had intended to lay out my experience with both sites and any opinions I had. My hope had been to get feedback from more people out there, and what they have found to work or not. Here is a quick overview of some things I was going to address.
I am very new to this and I am sure I have missed many things. Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions are always appreciated!
